The Online News Association, the world's largest membership organization of digital journalists, awarded NPR Outstanding Use of Emerging Platforms for NPR.org mobile applications and the Gannett Foundation Award for Technical Innovation in the Service of Digital Journalism for NPR's API, which includes a $5,000 prize. The awards were announced at the 2010 Online Journalism Awards dinner on Oct. 30 in Washington, DC. Kinsey Wilson, SVP and GM of Digital Media for NPR, also received high honors and was awarded the Rich Jaroslovsky Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the field of journalism. Kinsey joined NPR in November 2008 and is the key architect behind NPR's digital strategy and mobile innovations.

As part of ONA's three day conference, NPR President and CEO Vivian Schiller and Tim Armstrong, CEO of AOL, addressed 1,200 journalists at a keynote panel conversation moderated by Kara Swisher, co-executive editor of All Things Digital. Schiller and Armstrong discussed the direction of journalism in the digital age and their organizations' key priorities in how they deliver news and reach new audiences as technology evolves.
