Andrea Kissack Named NPR Chief Science Editor

Read NPR Executive Editor Edith Chapin's email to newsroom staff about Andrea Kissack's new position on the Science Desk.

As some of you may have heard an NPR legend is shifting gears. Anne Gudenkauf who has presided over the distinguished Science Desk for longer than would be polite to point out, is moving to a part-time role focused exclusively on Invisibilia beginning next month. We are glad she is remaining nearby, but she leaves a remarkable legacy for her successor.

I am extremely pleased to announce Andrea Kissack as NPR's new Chief Science Editor and head of the Science Desk.

Andrea has been Deputy Senior Supervising Editor of the digital team on the Science desk. She has done remarkable work providing leadership, integration and collaboration of the desk's work in visual, animation, text, graphic and audio.

Prior to her time at NPR, Andrea was at KQED, where she was Senior Editor for ten years of the station's award-winning multi-media science coverage. KQED Science is a large team known for its innovation, often experimenting with new tools and approaches to storytelling. Andrea has also served as the Senior Producer for the California Report, KQED's statewide news service. In addition to having worked at other member stations including KLON in Long Beach and WUSF in Tampa, she has reported for KNX, the CBS affiliate in Los Angeles. She has shared her wealth of experience as a teacher of multi-media storytelling and broadcast journalism at several colleges and universities. She graduated from Ohio University and received her Master of Arts in telecommunication management.

Andrea has an incredibly varied and deep experience as a leader, manager, reporter and editor with a combination of skills across visual, text and broadcast journalism.

Please join me in extending heartfelt thanks to Anne for her years of innovation, vision and leadership and hearty congratulations to Andrea as she assumes her new role.
