In the wake of all the hype around Popkomm and Berlin Music week, I found it a relief to discover an artist doing his own thing.

Robert Voss composes in English and German and has just finalized his new solo program which he'll be premiering soon.

Voss says he used to work with a band, but going solo enabled him to artistically find himself. He achieved his new sound working with a loop station and layers of voices and guitars. He feels this keeps him entertaining onstage as a solo artist.

He has since studied voice, and his lyrics have matured, partly because he became a father along the way.

Like so many true indie artists, Voss has his own label. He started it with his mother, who inspired him to make the move to solo work.

"I got the feeling for the first time that this is 100 percent me," Voss says.
