David Vitter (R), announced today she would not run after all. Daniels said she couldn't compete with the size of Vitter's war chest.

Vitter, the first Republican senator elected in the state since Reconstruction, got into big trouble in 2007 when his name appeared on the client list of a Washington, D.C. escort service. A woman who worked as a prostitute in Louisiana said he was a regular client of hers back when he was a state representative.
But, with $5 million in the bank, no prominent Republican decided to challenge him, and in fact the state GOP rallied behind him early on. Rep. Charlie Melancon (D) is his major opponent, while former GOP state legislator James David Cain may run as an independent.
