The Inscrutable Sanjaya Malakar

What is it about American Idol contestant Sanjaya Malakar that has everybody talking? He's not a great singer, he can't dance... so why is he even still on the show? Is it the hair? Is it the smile? Whatever it is, he's getting more popular, not less, and the judges hardly seem to know what to do with him.
