Frame grab from Huffington Post

Who wouldn't love a story about a 140-year-old hot dog found encased in ice at the site of a demolished restaurant on Coney Island?

News 12 Brooklyn and CNN couldn't resist. Nor could a quickly growing number of news sites, blogs and other Web destinations.

Unfortunately, says the New York Post, it's a hoax:

" 'The recent discovery by an amateur archaeologist of the 140 Year Old Feltman's Hot Dog ... was a publicity stunt in the grand tradition of Coney Island ballyhoo," said Tricia Vita, spokeswoman for the (Coney Island) history project.' "

But honestly, look at the allegedly ancient hot dog in the frame grab we captured. Does it really look like it's from the 1800s? If you think so, there's a bridge in Brooklyn someone might want to sell you.

(H/T to The Huffington Post, which also got caught up in the hoax and had the CNN/News 12 Brooklyn video until just a few minutes ago -- when it mysteriously became "no longer available.")
