Let's start our day with a story of true bravery.
"Deer Creek Middle School math teacher David Benke was doing parking lot duty (Tuesday) as school was letting out when he heard what he thought were firecrackers," The Denver Post writes. "It was the sound of gunfire."
What happened then at the suburban Denver school is inspiring. Benke, 57, "tackled a man armed with a high-powered rifle just after two teenage students were shot," the Associated Press writes, preventing more injuries. Another teacher helped pin the gunman to the ground. The wounded kids are expected to survive.
Denver's KUSA-TV reports that Benke doesn't consider himself to be a hero. He's just glad, he says, that he was on parking lot duty yesterday and was able to help:
Well, Benke is modest -- but lots of folks think he deserves recognition. There's a "Dr. David Benke Is A Hero!!!!" Facebook page that's already got nearly 8,500 members.
