Happy Presidents' Day!

We are planning to take Monday off on account of Presidents' Day.

Also, note that we went with Presidents' Day, not Presidents Day and not President's Day. The New York Times has a very good piece on apostrophe confusion. Now, mind you, the 2011 piece doesn't settle the apostrophe debate, it merely explores how a single apostrophe could change history. So here's how we settled on Presidents':

Before it was Presidents' Day, it was Washington's Birthday. But according to the History Chanel the day now honors "Abraham Lincoln ... and the lives and accomplishments of all U.S. presidents." So, it's a day that belongs to all presidents.

In any case, to those of you who have the day off: Enjoy! Meanwhile, you may see a post or two from NPR's weekend staff and NPR's Andy Carvin who has been filing from Libya.
