September 4, 2014 • The ruling could cost BP billions of dollars. U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier found that BP acted recklessly and was mostly responsible for the biggest oil spill in U.S. history.

January 16, 2013 • The State Department said Americans are reported to be among the hostages taken by militants at an Algerian gas plant. The total number of hostages is unclear, as are the number of Americans. The attack is seen as retaliation against France's intervention against Islamists in neighboring Mali.
