March 10, 2013 • The seven — four Lebanese, one British, one Greek and one Italian citizen – who worked for a construction company were kidnapped Feb 16. A militant Islamist group claimed responsibility.

Alabama Hostage Standoff Continues

February 1, 2013 • A 5-year-old boy has been held captive in an underground bunker since Tuesday. Authorities continue to negotiate with his captor. The child's bus driver was killed before the kidnapping. His sister says Charles Poland, "would have done anything to protect those kids."

Americans Said To Be Among Hostages Seized By Militants In Algeria

January 16, 2013 • The State Department said Americans are reported to be among the hostages taken by militants at an Algerian gas plant. The total number of hostages is unclear, as are the number of Americans. The attack is seen as retaliation against France's intervention against Islamists in neighboring Mali.
