Resistance To Memory Liane speaks with poet and photographer Gerard Malanga They discuss "Resistance to Memory" a compilation of the artist''s black and white photo-portraits of celebrities taken in the 1970''s. (pub: Arena Edition) There are 71 portraits in the book, including such American cultural icons as William Burroughs, Patti Smith, Lotte Lenya and Allen Ginsburg. Malanga knew many of his subjects personally and has said he believes each person gave him his picture. Only one photo in the entire collection was staged or posed. Malanga says all the others were taken spontaneously and in spite of careful planning.
