So You'd Like to Be President: Richardson Ad

If there was ever any doubt about the role the Web would play in the current presidential race, consider the latest ad by the Democratic candidate, Bill Richardson.
The Richardson campaign put two new spots on TV today ion New Hampshire and Iowa. But they uploaded them to YouTube last night. And they definitely have a YouTube feel to them.
Richardson is seated in front of a desk in a non-descript office and he looks a little anxious. And why not? He's applying for a job. And the interviewer doesn't seem particularly impressed.

Unidentified Man: Tell me what you did as Governor of New Mexico?
Mr. BILL RICHARDSON (Democrat, Presidential Candidate): Well, I used tax cuts to help create…
Unidentified Man: Over 80,000 jobs. Yes. I saw that.
Mr. RICHARDSON: A lot of those jobs are…
Unidentified Man: Are high-tech. Helps the middle class.
Mr. RICHARDSON: Up to six in the nation for job growths.
Unidentified Man: Balanced (Unintelligible) budgets, put over $600 million in the classroom and cut school bureaucracy.
Mr. RICHARDSON: New Mexico was 46 in teacher pay, now we're 29th.
Unidentified Man: But for what we're looking for, you might be a little over qualified.

Mr. RICHARDSON: I'm Bill Richardson. And I approve this message.
NORRIS: Mark Putman(ph) is the media consultant whose firm came up with the idea of the fake job interview. He told us he sees it as a kind of metaphor for the whole process. Putman says the Richardson campaign plans to run the ads and other states holding early primaries. But no doubt, some voters would have seen the commercials long before they're broadcast. Putman says, the new ad got 50,000 hits on YouTube after less than a day.
