Screenwriter and playwright Horton Foote's career in theater, film and television spanned more than 60 years. His major successes include an Academy Award in 1963 for his screenplay of To Kill a Mockingbird, another in 1985 for the screenplay of Tender Mercies and a Pulitzer Prize in 1995 for the play The Young Man From Atlanta.

Foote died on March 4, 2009 after a brief illness. He was 92.
