NPR's Special Correspondent Susan Stamberg profiles James Conlon, the 48-year-old American conductor of the Paris Opera and of the Cologne Symphony. Conlon is a graduate of the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan and of Julliard. He has just signed a new contract that will keep him in Paris until the year 2004, conducting performances in both of the city's opera houses.
