Legal Suicides In Netherlands? -- N-P-R's Joanne Silberner reports on the controversy in the Netherlands over expanding doctor-assisted suicide to include cases of severe mental illness. It is clearly possible for Dutch physicians to assist in suicides of patients who have irreversible illnesses, such as cancer. Not so clear is the legality of assisting suicides of patients who have severe depression. The debate is examined in the current issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.
