Ford Mustang Celebrates 45th Anniversary
STEVE INSKEEP, host:
And today's last word in business takes us back to an era when the operative color was not green but skylight blue, Rangoon red or maybe Wimbledon white. Those are some of the colors that Ford Mustang buyers could choose from when the car first appeared on April 17, 1964, 45 years ago. Ford figured it would sell maybe 100,000 a year, but 22,000 cars sold on the first day, more than 400,000 that first year. The Mustang's runaway success gave rise to a whole new breed called the pony car, which has lasted through good times and bad.
And that's the business news on MORNING EDITION from NPR News. I'm Steve Inskeep.
