Nea Head The White House comfirmed today that William Ivey will be its nominee to head the National Endowment for the Arts. Ivey succeeds Jane Alexander and, if confirmed, will be the first NEA chair to have actually run a non-profit arts organization - the Country Music Foundation. He has also served on endowment peer review panels and on the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities. But his nomination, following that of William Ferris to head the National Endowment for the Humanities, raises a question: are Southern populist historians all the administration thinks it can get through a hostile House of Representatives?
