Omb & Race The Office of Management and Budget has made a final decision not to allow a separate multi-racial category for use in the 2000 Census and on other federal forms. Some groups had argued that the category was needed because of the increase in the number of individuals who no longer fit neatly into one racial group or another. But opponents of the change argued it might diminsih the influence of some racial groups, like blacks, Asians and Latinos, and that it would further splinter the public along racial lines.
