The members of the moody folk-pop band Cowboy Junkies have visited Mountain Stage eight times since 1992. The group's 1988 album The Trinity Session, recorded in one day around a single microphone, became a seminal album, achieving worldwide praise and platinum sales. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Trinity, the group recently reinterpreted the material for a live video recording with Ryan Adams, Natalie Merchant and Vic Chesnutt, who had all been influenced by the original release.
With ambient walls of guitar provided by Michael Timmins, the eerie harmonica accompaniment of Jeff Bird, longtime bassist Alan Anton and Margo Timmins' hushed, contemplative voice, the group's alt-folk draws inspiration from Hank Williams, Lightnin' Hopkins and The Velvet Underground.
The set closes with Mountain Stage pianist Bob Thompson performing the Bill Evans song "Time Remembered."
