General Motors - Gas Tanks A jury today awarded 4-point-9 billion dollars to six people who sued General Motors who suffered severe burns when the gas tank on the Chevy Malibu they were riding in exploded in an accident. Plaintiffs' attorneys charged that General Motors had determined it was cheaper to be sued as a result of poor design, than to fix the problem. GM says it will appeal.
