Douglas Leigh Obituary Douglas Leigh, the man behind some of the best known signs in New York City, died Tuesday at the age of 92. Leigh created billboards in Times Square that no one could miss -- including an ad for Camel Cigarettes that actually puffed smoke rings, and a coffee pot that steamed. He also played a major role in the designing of the lights in Times Square and on the Empire State Building.
