The nine Republican candidates for president faced off Sunday in a debate in Iowa. The event was a special telecast of ABC's This Week moderated by its host, George Stephanopoulos.

The issue of abortion led off the debate, as Stephanopoulos brought up a recorded phone message being sent to voters from the campaign of Sam Brownback (R-Kansas), criticizing former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney for his record on the subject.

Romney said that he had changed his position toward a more pro-life stance. "I get tired of people who are holier-than-thou because they've been pro-life longer than I have," he said.

Candidates also discussed foreign policy and also took a question e-mailed from a viewer about previous defining mistakes.
