President Bush made a visit to the Pentagon on Friday to meet with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The president's visit marks the beginning of a two-week marathon of reports, testimony and briefings on the future of the U.S. military effort in Iraq — culminating in the appearance before Congress of Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in that war-torn country.
