For author Frye Gaillard, Alabama is a place of heroes. Many of them are chronicled in his new book, Cradle of Freedom, about the tumultuous racial events of 40 years ago leading up to and beyond the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. NPR's Tavis Smiley speaks with Gaillard.
