The 'Literary' Legacy of Lord Timothy Dexter
Jan. 22 is "Lord" Timothy Dexter's birthday. The self-proclaimed royal was an early American eccentric. His 1802 memoir A Pickle for the Knowing Ones, or Plain Truths in a Homespun Dress is entirely misspelled and contains no punctuation. Literary historian Paul Collins discusses Lord Timothy's lasting appeal.
