Even as Americans are urged to improve their super-sized eating habits, some fast food chains are offering bigger portions with more fat. And many customers are eating it up.
The new government food guidelines recommend that people keep their total daily fat intake to between 20 percent and 35 percent of calories.
Because everyone's daily caloric needs differ, the recommended amount of dietary fat varies from person to person. A person on a diet of 2,000 calories a day is allowed 65 grams of fat each day. If that person ate a Hardee's Monster Thickburger, he would be eating more than 1 1/2 times his daily allowance of fat.
Last November, Hardee's made headlines when it introduced its Monster Thickburger. The burger has two 1/3-pound charbroiled patties, topped with bacon, three slices of American cheese and mayonnaise, all between buttered buns.
