Rita Coolidge discusses her new album with host Liane Hansen later in the show.

LIANE HANSEN, host:

Rita Coolidge sang backup for some of rock's biggest superstars before she broke out as a soloist. She made the top of the charts singing soul, blues and country, but, until now, she was never given the chance to record the album of her dreams.

Ms. RITA COOLIDGE: I grew up loving Peggy Lee and Rosemary Clooney, and when I signed with my new management, they said, `What do you want to do that you haven't done?' And I said, `I'm gonna say it real clear: a jazz album.'

(Soundbite of "And So Is Love")

Ms. COOLIDGE: (Singing) And so is love.

HANSEN: Rita Coolidge's new CD is called "And So Is Love." Coming up later this hour, Rita Coolidge sings some standards.
