Members of Boulder Acoustic Society, a four-piece string band, say they are a "new take on American Roots Music." In the band, Aaron Keim, Brad Jones, Kailin Yong and Scott Higgins play multiple instruments, including the guitar, fiddle, string bass, marimba, ukulele, banjo and mandolin.
Featuring a range of genres, from bluegrass to ragtime, BAS's music maintains a full and versatile sound. With a "deep respect for tradition," but an innovative style, BAS won second place in the 2006 Telluride Bluegrass Competition for bands and will be showcasing their jazz skills at the Trilogy Lounge in Boulder, Colo., on Friday, Sept. 15.
Along with playing in BAS, Keim, Jones, Yong and Higgins act as educators and mentors for students of all ages, giving lessons, masterclasses, and workshops. They also perform as concert soloists with orchestras and choirs. "Morning By the River" is off their CD 8th Color.
