Calling her work "as organic as music gets," Serena Matthews wants her songs to sound raw, not flawless. She records and produces all of her music at home. Featuring her and her acoustic guitar, the song "Here in the Blue" was inspired by Neil Young. It is off her first album, Dreams for the Broken.
Originally from the small county of Byrdstown, Tenn., Matthews works in a digital photography lab outside Nashville. She uploaded her first songs in 2001 onto mp3.com's old site and became amazed at the response she got. By 2003, she had over 100,000 downloads and had recorded her debut Dreams.
Along with being webmaster of her own Web site, Matthews just finished her second album, Soul Searching. She recently signed a contract with the independent Georgia label Lost Cat Records and both her albums can be downloaded from their site and iTunes.
