Democratic nominee Deval Patrick faces Republican Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey in the hard-fought race to be the next governor of Massachusetts.

If elected, Patrick would be the state's first black governor, and only the nation's second since Reconstruction. If Healey is elected, she would be the state's first elected female governor.
