Minnesota Sends Muslim to Congress
RENEE MONTAGNE, host:
Good morning. I'm Renee Montagne.
Keith Ellison will be one small part of the new look on Capitol Hill. He's the first Muslim to be elected to Congress. Ellison converted to Islam in college. On the campaign trail, he said the media made too much of his religion. His opponent tried to brand him an anti-Semite. But he snagged endorsements from a major Jewish group and Jewish newspaper. Keith Ellison is also the first black legislator that Minnesota has sent to Washington.
