At first glance, you'd think Sen. Barack Obama would have no problem lining up Chicago's most influential Democrats to support and fund his presidential bid. But Hillary Rodham Clinton was born and raised there, which gives her an in with Chicago power brokers and fund raisers.

As both campaigns try to line up critical early strategic and financial support, some of Chicago's most powerful Democrats are shrinking into the shadows, waiting as long as they can before being forced to choose between one they consider to be the favorite son and another whom they consider an old friend.
