BURBANK: First, in Iraq an assassination attempt on Iraq's Shiite vice president while the country's president is hospitalized in Jordan.
CHADWICK: The assassination attempt was against Adel Abdul-Mahdi. He's one of two men who hold the post of vice president. The other is a Sunni Muslim. Someone set off a bomb while he was making a speech at a municipal building in Baghdad. It killed at least 10 people. The site was supposedly searched before the speech by American troops with bomb sniffing dogs.
BURBANK: Meanwhile, the president of Iraq, Jalal Talabani, is recuperating from what his doctor called exhaustion and lung inflammation. Talabani fell ill yesterday and was reportedly unconscious when he was taken to a hospital near his home in northern Iraq. Later he was flown out of the country to Amman, Jordan, where he is in a hospital there and reportedly stable.
