(Soundbite of 'Dark Knight' theme)

You would think, coming from bucolic Vermont, that Senator Patrick Leahy's favorite fictional characters would tend towards the green and mellow, not the dark and urban. But the senator has always been a fan of Batman. In fact, according to The Washington Post, he landed a cameo in the latest caped crusader movie, "The Dark Knight," to be released July 18. You can see him for an instant in the trailer for the movie getting roughed up by some of the Joker's thugs.
The senator has put his star turn to good use. The Post reports he has convinced Warner Brothers to premier "The Dark Knight" at a fundraiser for the Kellogg-Hubbard Children's Library in his hometown of Montpelier. It's unlikely that the current Batman, Christian Bale, will make an appearance, which we suppose offers the opportunity for Senator Leahy to break out his favorite black tights.
