STEVE INSKEEP, host:
Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep with a defense of sugar. An official in Ashburnham, Massachusetts tried to stop bad eating habits, wanted to stop spending money on doughnuts for the local senior center morning coffee club, which went over exactly as well as you'd expect. Seniors tell the Telegram and Gazette newspaper that nobody can tell them what to eat. And a member of the local council on aging adds that many seniors will not eat, quote, "carrot sticks and stuff."
It's MORNING EDITION.
