Among the items auctioned off yesterday, in what was billed as the largest collections of Winston Churchill memorabilia, was a cigar, the kind he'd famously clench in his teeth. It was unsmoked. And a pair of a letters were hot sellers. One from a former private secretary urged Churchill to basically surrender to Nazi Germany. Churchill's response: I'm ashamed of you for writing such a letter. I return it to you to burn and forget.
