DON GONYEA, Host:

The humble breakfast porridge has, in recent years, become a common item on the menu on coffee chains and fast-food restaurants. It's seen by customers as healthy and cheap. It is also profitable for companies to sell. So now even McDonald's is rolling out the rolled oats. According to the Chicago Tribune, the fast-food chain plans to add oatmeal to its breakfast menu by the end of this week. McDonald's will sweeten its oatmeal a bit with apples, raisins, cranberries and cream.

GONYEA: Jimmies.

INSKEEP: Jimmies.

GONYEA: Fruit Loops.

INSKEEP: Or gravy. Gravy. If there's some gravy on the oatmeal, I'm right there for a healthy meal, I think.

GONYEA: So that's the business news on MORNING EDITION, from NPR News. I'm Don Gonyea.

INSKEEP: And Steve Inskeep.
