Now to some musical relics. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its latest inductees today. So who made the list?
(Soundbite of music)
Mr. ALICE COOPER (Musician): (Singing) School's out for summer.
MELISSA BLOCK, host:
That's Alice Cooper, the original self-proclaimed rock villain. He will be inducted, along with his band.
SIEGEL: Another one who made the cut, singer-songwriter and sports stadium sing-along favorite Neil Diamond.
(Soundbite of song, "Sweet Caroline")
Mr. NIEL DIAMOND (Singer): (Singing) Sweet Caroline, good times never seemed so good.
BLOCK: And Robert, here's where we come in, so good, so good.
(Soundbite of laughter)
SIEGEL: I'll pass on that. Next up, New Orleans musician Malcolm Rebennack, better known as Dr. John, he was also inducted.
Mr. MALCOLM REBENNACK (Musician): (Singing) I've been in the right place, but it must have been the wrong time.
BLOCK: And it was the right place and the right time also for the genre-defying Tom Waits, a singer perhaps better known for his unmistakable voice than for any one song.
(Soundbite of song, Downtown Train)
Mr. TOM WAITS (Musician): (Singing) Well, Ill sit tonight on a downtown train.
SIEGEL: And finally the lone female inductee is Darlene Love. She was once with the girl group the Blossoms, but she also had a successful solo career.
(Soundbite of music)
Ms. DARLENE LOVE (Singer): (Singing) Today I met the boy I'm gonna marry...
BLOCK: And when they are winners, there are also losers. Donovan, the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, and the J. Geils Band were among those who were nominated but not inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
SIEGEL: At least one nominee walked away, though, with a consolation prize.
(Soundbite of song, You Give Love A Bad Name)
BON JOVI (Music Group): (Singing) Shot through the heart, and you're to blame. Darling, you give love a bad name.
BLOCK: Bon Jovi, the band, won't be enshrined in 2011, but lead singer Jon Bon Jovi will be appointed to the White House Council on Community Solutions.
SIEGEL: President Obama announced plans for the council yesterday. It's to advise him on community issues.
BLOCK: And it turns out, Jon Bon Jovi is the chairman of non-profit named after him that works to provide affordable housing to low-income families.
(Soundbite of song, Who Says You Cant Go Home)
BON JOVI: (Singing) You take the home from the boy but not the boy from his home. These are my streets, the only life Ive ever known. Who says you can't go home? Who says that you can't go home? There's only one place...
