In Baghdad, the trial of Saddam Hussein and seven others resume today. But this time there are no defendants in the courtroom. Yesterday, Saddam and four others failed to appear along with their defense team. The three defendants who did show up yesterday have been barred from the courtroom. The chief judge said they were behaving badly.
The trial, which began last October, has been marked by chaos. There's been the resignation of the first chief judge, the assassination of two defense lawyers, and of course, the grandstanding of the main defendant Saddam Hussein.
