WERTHEIMER: This week in Japan, a woman was sentenced to 20 months in prison for blasting her stereo. Seems that Mioko Kawahara(ph) of Heggery(ph) in western Japan had a bone to pick with her neighbor. So for almost three years, Ms. Kawahara faced her stereo toward her neighbor's house, just 20 feet away, and cranked it up to 11 - 24 hours a day.
The neighbor complained of insomnia and headaches, and a court finally pulled the plug. A lower court sentenced the defendant to a one-year term, but the Osaka high court bumped it up to 20 months, saying Ms. Kawahara maintains a hostile attitude toward the victim, and it is likely she will commit the crime again.
