People who believe in free markets want to use them to predict disease. It's the latest effort to gain from the wisdom of crowds. The Pentagon gave up a plan to create a future's market to let people profit from predictions of terrorist attacks. But now a foundation is recruiting health experts to predict the spread of bird flu. Experts will be staked a hundred bucks to trade. They can profit if they give the world an early prediction of a flu pandemic.
