STEVE INSKEEP, host:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep. You could argue that Plaxico Burress has been punished enough. The New York Giants receiver faces criminal charges for possessing a weapon. It's the same weapon with which he shot himself in the leg on Friday night. His lawyer is asking people to withhold judgment. Coach Tom Coughlin's reaction was in part, quote, "Hopefully he's going to be fine, and so on, and so forth." The team's general manager says he phoned Burress, who has yet to call back. It's Morning Edition.
