MELISSA BLOCK, Host:
NPR's Bob Mondello says that getting the money in fast is probably a good idea.
BOB MONDELLO: With four separate subplots and more twists than a daytime soap, episode three plays like "As the Web Turns" with special effects.
(SOUNDBITE OF MOVIE, "SPIDER-MAN 3")
MONDELLO: We'll get to the bad dancing in a moment. But the three bad guys: Spidey's estranged best friend who's morphed into Green Goblin Junior.
(SOUNDBITE OF MOVIE, "SPIDER-MAN 3")
TOBEY MAGUIRE: (As Spider-Man/Peter Parker) Harry.
JAMES FRANCO: (As New Goblin/Harry Osborn) You knew this was coming, Pete.
MONDELLO: Also Venom, who's not much more than a mess of black goo with fangs.
(SOUNDBITE OF MOVIE, "SPIDER-MAN 3")
MONDELLO: And Sandman who gets de-molecularized in the film's coolest effect, and becomes the object of Spider-Man's black goo ravings.
(SOUNDBITE OF MOVIE, "SPIDER-MAN 3")
THOMAS HADEN CHURCH: (As Sandman/Flint Marko) What do you want from me?
MAGUIRE: (As Spider-Man/Peter Parker) Remember Ben Parker, the old man you shot down in cold blood?
HADEN CHURCH: (As Sandman/Flint Marko) What does it matter it you anyway?
(SOUNDBITE OF TRUCK)
MAGUIRE: (As Spider-Man/Peter Parker) Everything.
MONDELLO: But happily, the screenwriters still have good old Aunt May around to remind us that there is a message.
(SOUNDBITE OF MOVIE, "SPIDER-MAN 3")
ROSEMARY HARRIS: (As May Parker) Revenge is like a poison that can take us over. Before you know it, it can turn you into something ugly.
MONDELLO: I'm Bob Mondello.
